Instructions
  1. Combine cranberries, sugar, and water (or orange juice) in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in orange zest if desired. Let cool to room temperature before serving or refrigerate.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, you can mash some of the cranberries with a fork. Adjust sugar to your taste. This sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
