Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 large sweet potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup butter melted
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
Topping
  • 0.5 cup pecans chopped
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter cold, cut into pieces

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Large bowl
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Small bowl
  • Oven

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Boil the peeled and cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot of salted water until they are tender, which usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Drain the cooked sweet potatoes and mash them thoroughly in a large bowl.
Mixing and Baking
  1. Add brown sugar, melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt to the mashed sweet potatoes, then mix everything until it's well combined and smooth.
  2. In a separate small bowl, combine chopped pecans, flour, brown sugar, and cold butter, then use your fingers to mix until it forms a crumbly topping.
  3. Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, sprinkle the pecan topping over it, and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.

Notes

For an extra touch, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the sweet potato mixture. If you prefer a less sweet casserole, reduce the amount of brown sugar in both the potato mixture and the topping.
