Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Boil the peeled and cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot of salted water until they are tender, which usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the cooked sweet potatoes and mash them thoroughly in a large bowl.
Mixing and Baking
- Add brown sugar, melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt to the mashed sweet potatoes, then mix everything until it's well combined and smooth.
- In a separate small bowl, combine chopped pecans, flour, brown sugar, and cold butter, then use your fingers to mix until it forms a crumbly topping.
- Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, sprinkle the pecan topping over it, and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
Notes
For an extra touch, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the sweet potato mixture. If you prefer a less sweet casserole, reduce the amount of brown sugar in both the potato mixture and the topping.
