Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 (10-12 lbs) whole turkey
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 onions, quartered
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped

Equipment

  • roasting pan
  • meat thermometer

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey, then pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
Seasoning and Roasting
  1. Rub the softened butter all over the turkey, then season generously with salt and black pepper. Place the quartered onions, chopped celery, and carrots inside the turkey cavity.
Baking
  1. Place the turkey in a large roasting pan and roast for 2 to 2.5 hours, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reads 165°F (74°C). Allow the turkey to rest for 15 minutes before carving and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme to the turkey cavity with the vegetables. Basting the turkey every 30-45 minutes can help keep it moist, but avoid opening the oven too frequently to maintain a consistent temperature.
