Preparation
- Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and cut them into 1-inch pieces; set aside.
- In a small bowl, whisk together chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to create the seasoning blend.
- Prepare the salsa by combining diced tomatoes, finely chopped red onion, chopped cilantro, and lime juice in a separate bowl.
- For the creamy sauce, mix mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, and hot sauce (if using) in another small bowl.
Cooking
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Season the fish pieces evenly with the prepared spice blend.
- Add the seasoned fish to the hot skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
- While the fish is cooking, warm the corn tortillas according to package instructions, either in a dry skillet, microwave, or oven.
Assembly
- To assemble the tacos, place a spoonful of cooked fish into each warm tortilla.
- Top the fish with shredded red cabbage, a generous spoonful of fresh salsa, and a few slices of avocado.
- Drizzle with the creamy sauce and serve immediately.
Notes
For extra crunch, you can quickly pan-fry the tortillas before assembling. Feel free to customize the salsa with other vegetables like corn or black beans. You can also add a squeeze of lime juice over the fish after cooking for a brighter flavor.
