Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by lightly greasing it.
- Boil the peeled and diced sweet potatoes until they are very tender; then drain them thoroughly and mash them in a large bowl.
Assemble the Casserole
- Add melted butter, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the mashed sweet potatoes, mixing until well combined and smooth.
- For the topping, combine flour and brown sugar in a separate bowl, then cut in the cold butter until the mixture is crumbly.
- Stir in the chopped pecans into the topping mixture, then evenly sprinkle this over the sweet potato base in the prepared baking dish.
Baking
- Bake the casserole for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the sweet potatoes are heated through.
Notes
For an extra touch of sweetness, you can add marshmallows on top during the last 10 minutes of baking. Ensure sweet potatoes are very tender before mashing for a creamy consistency.
