  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
Sausage & Herb Variation
  • 1 pound sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 tsp sage
  • 0.5 tsp thyme
Apple & Cranberry Variation
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 0.5 cup dried cranberries
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon
Mushroom & Thyme Variation
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
Cornbread & Chorizo Variation
  • 6 cups cornbread, crumbled
  • 0.5 pound chorizo, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 jalapeño, minced

Method
 

Base Preparation
  1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then sauté chopped onion and celery until softened, which takes about 5-7 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with the sautéed vegetables and gradually add the vegetable broth, tossing until evenly moistened.
Sausage & Herb Variation
  1. Mix the cooked and crumbled sausage, sage, and thyme into a portion of the prepared stuffing base until well combined.
Apple & Cranberry Variation
  1. Fold the diced apple, dried cranberries, and cinnamon into a separate portion of the stuffing base.
Mushroom & Thyme Variation
  1. Sauté the sliced mushrooms until tender, then stir them with the fresh thyme into another section of the stuffing base.
Cornbread & Chorizo Variation
  1. In a new bowl, combine the crumbled cornbread with cooked chorizo and minced jalapeño, then mix in a portion of the original stuffing base.
Baking Instructions
  1. Transfer each stuffing variation to a separate baking dish and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and heated through.

Notes

Adjust broth quantity as needed for desired stuffing consistency. For a moister stuffing, cover with foil during the first 20 minutes of baking. These stuffings can be prepared a day in advance and reheated.
