Preparation
- Preheat your waffle iron to the recommended setting and lightly grease it with vegetable oil or cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Mixing
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vegetable oil until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix; a few lumps are acceptable.
Cooking
- Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter onto the preheated waffle iron, or as much as needed to cover the plates.
- Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.
Serving
- Carefully remove the cooked waffle and serve immediately with your favorite toppings, such as syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.
- Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the waffle iron as needed between batches.
Notes
For extra fluffy waffles, let the batter rest for 5-10 minutes before cooking. Do not open the waffle iron too early, as this can prevent the waffles from rising properly and becoming crispy.
