Ingredients

Breadstick Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
Topping
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese (grated)

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • plastic wrap
  • baking sheet
  • small bowl

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt, then gradually add warm water and olive oil, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. Punch down the risen dough, divide it into 7 equal pieces, and roll each piece into a 10-inch long breadstick shape.
  3. Arrange the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet, then bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  4. While the breadsticks are baking, mix melted butter, garlic powder, and dried oregano in a small bowl.
  5. Once baked, brush the warm breadsticks with the garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of dried basil or rosemary to the garlic butter mixture. These breadsticks are best served warm and fresh.
