Cooking Steps
- In a medium saucepan or pot, melt the butter or heat the olive oil over medium heat, then add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and soft, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the long-grain rice to the saucepan and stir continuously for about 2-3 minutes until the grains are lightly toasted and opaque.
- Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until all the liquid has been absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat, keep it covered, and let the rice rest for 5 minutes before fluffing it gently with a fork and serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add a bay leaf or a pinch of saffron with the broth. You can also toast a handful of orzo or vermicelli pasta along with the rice for added texture. Ensure the lid is tight during simmering to trap steam effectively for perfectly cooked rice.
