Preparation
- In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper to create the marinade.
- Add the thinly sliced beef sirloin to the marinade and mix well, ensuring all the meat is coated; cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably 2-4 hours, to allow the flavors to meld.
Cooking
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, then add the marinated beef in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan for even cooking.
- Stir-fry the beef for 2-3 minutes per side until it is browned and cooked through, working in batches if necessary.
- Add the thinly sliced onion to the skillet during the last few minutes of cooking and stir-fry until softened.
- Garnish the cooked bulgogi with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
For extra tenderness, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of grated Asian pear to the marinade. Serve the bulgogi with steamed rice and kimchi for a complete meal.
