Ingredients

Dough
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
Topping
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Stir in the flour, salt, and olive oil until a shaggy dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Gently punch down the risen dough and divide it into 5 equal pieces.
  2. Roll each piece into a breadstick shape, about 8-10 inches long. Place the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. For extra flavor, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder immediately after baking.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can add a tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese to the dough. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce or soup.
