Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 6 cups blackberries
  • 6 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Equipment

  • large pot
  • wooden spoon
  • ladle
  • canning jars
  • canning funnel
  • water bath canner

Method

Instructions
  1. Wash blackberries thoroughly and remove any stems or leaves.
  2. In a large pot, combine the blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes, or until the jam thickens to your desired consistency.
  4. To test for doneness, place a small amount of jam on a chilled plate and refrigerate for a few minutes. It should wrinkle when pushed with a spoon.
  5. Carefully ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims clean and seal tightly with lids.
  6. Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to ensure a proper seal. Let the jars cool completely before storing.

Notes

For a smoother jam, mash some of the blackberries with a potato masher while cooking. To make a seedless jam, press the cooked blackberries through a fine-mesh sieve before filling jars.
