Ingredients

Waffle Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Whisk
  • Belgian waffle iron

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vegetable oil.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; do not overmix, as lumps are okay.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your Belgian waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Lightly grease the waffle iron plates, if necessary, to prevent sticking.
  3. Pour approximately 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter onto the hot waffle iron, depending on its size.
  4. Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffle is golden brown and crispy.
Serving
  1. Carefully remove the cooked waffle from the iron and transfer it to a plate.
  2. Repeat with the remaining batter until all waffles are cooked.
  3. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings, such as syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Notes

For extra fluffy waffles, separate the egg and beat the egg white until stiff peaks form, then gently fold into the batter at the very end. Be careful not to overfill the waffle iron, as the batter will expand during cooking.
