- Wash and core the tomatoes, then cut them into quarters.
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat and add minced garlic; cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the quartered tomatoes, fresh basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper to the pot.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes break down and the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before blending to your desired consistency.
- Serve warm with your favorite pasta or use in other recipes.
Notes
For an even smoother sauce, you can strain it through a fine-mesh sieve after blending.
