Basic Cranberry Sauce
- Combine cranberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Continue to simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in orange zest if desired. Cool completely before serving.
Spiced Cranberry Sauce
- In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, brown sugar, apple cider, cinnamon stick, and whole cloves. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened to your liking. Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves before serving. Cool completely.
Cranberry-Orange Chutney
- In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, orange juice, diced orange, minced ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
- Cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chutney has thickened and the cranberries are soft. Cool completely before serving.
Notes
For best results, make these cranberry sauces a day in advance to allow the flavors to meld. They can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
